How do I pick the best VFD for my application?

Not sure where to start, when you need a VFD? Whether you need to upgrade or replace, all you need to know for VFDs or Resistor selection is here.

VFD sizing:

  1. Crane motion to be controlled.
  2. If hoisting, does the hoist have a mechanical load brake along with the motor brake?
  3. Motor HP and number of motors.
  4. Motor FLA.

Resistor sizing:

  1. Crane duty Class
  2. For no load brake (vector) hoists, either the max run time at rated speed, or the hoist’s rated speed and the lift height.

As a reminder, for travel applications 5HP and under, the Class D regeneration resistors are built into the drive.
